Newly elected Dems lay out prerequisites for Bipartisanship
The voters of Norwalk have just elected 5 Democrats to the 15 member Common Council. To respect the will of the voters the makeup of the council committees must reflect this proportionality. This means two Democrats and four Republicans need to be assigned to each committee.
If the majority party decides to add a seventh member to a committee then that additional committee member should be a Democrat. The balance needs to remain 2:1 to respect the will of the Norwalk Voters.
Additionally, the minority caucus organizes itself and appoints its own members to the committees.
These members are:
Health, Welfare and Public Safety: David Jaegar and Travis Simms.
Public Works: Laurel Lindstrom and Nora King
Personnel: Carvin Hilliard and Travis Simms
Finance: Nora King and David Jaegar
Land Use & Building Management: Nora King and David Jaegar
Ordinance: Carvin Hilliard and Laurel Lindstrom (Travis Simms if a 7th member is added)
Planning: Laurel Lindstrom and Carvin Hilliard (Nora King if a 7th member is added)
Recreation & Parks: Laurel Lindstrom and Travis Simms (David Jaegar if a 7th member is added)
Maritime Authority: Travis Simms
Norwalk Facilities Construction Commission: David Jaegar
Water Pollution Control Authority: Laurel Lindstrom
Historical Commission: Nora King in year 2
The Minority Leader will be Laurel Lindstrom.
The current council with a majority of Democrats gave two committee chairmanships to Republicans. Therefore, the same number of chairmanships needs to be given to the newly elected minority Democrats.
The proposed chairs are Carvin Hilliard for the Ordinance Committee and Nora King for the Finance Committee.

Letter to the Editor:
Thank you District E voters for helping me to get elected to the Norwalk Common Council. I’ll work hard to represent our part of Norwalk on the Council and to keep you informed of issues impacting our City.
Thanks to those who encouraged me to run, helped me campaign, and supported me in countless other ways; I couldn’t and wouldn’t have done it without you. A special thanks goes out to:
· Mark Pinzon, my husband, who worked tirelessly on my campaign especially on my campaign materials
· Mark Hawkins, my campaign manager and my friend, who provided great advice and support
· Senator Bob Duff who encouraged me to run for office
· Galen Wells for campaign advice, encouragement, and faith in my ability.
· Mike Barbis, who first suggested running for Common Council. Mike became my, motivator, confidant, and chief organizer. Mike worked very hard to help me get elected; he never lost faith in me. He did it with humor, hardwork and was so amazing to work with!
· Frank and Cathy Nash for lots of great advice
· John Igneri who spent hours campaigning with me, and provided so much support. We logged numerous miles on our often tired feet. I am also happy he won 6th Taxing District Commissioner; he will do a great job for Rowayton.
· The Democratic Town Committee who endorsed and supported me for the run for office.
· Elaine Falkenberg who helped me launch my campaign last summer at Bayley Beach
· Anna Duleep and Chris Potts for their advice and support
· My mother who flew up from Florida in the last few days of the campaign to take care of my two year old son.
· It was a lot of work but the people I met inspired me to keep moving forward. I realize we all share similar worries and want the best for our neighborhoods.
· I met many of my neighbors in my neighborhood of Rowayton and will continue to love my journey in this great village. Thank you for all the fundraising and coming out in such larger numbers to vote!
